About Us

Our founders, Dave Gardner and Leigh Gardner, struck up a friendship 25 years ago which evolved almost immediately into long nights working together on commercial Christmas installations around Perth’s shopping centres. A shared excitement about how magical the Christmas season could be for so many people across Perth was always discussed with passion.

Dave & Leigh’s Story

The following 25 years saw Dave and Leigh follow separate career paths, however, two consistent factors remained – a strong friendship and an urge to create something magical for people around town.

Dave remained deeply invested within the industry as Managing Director of a successful display company. He continued his passion for creating unique seasonal displays, honing his craft as he worked in major shopping centres around Australia.

Leigh’s path led him to become a trade qualified carpenter and joiner which quickly progressed to roles in project management and ultimately, senior management roles in Perth’s commercial building industry. A strong passion for communication, safety and certainty of delivery was always at the core of Leigh’s approach.

In 2016, Dave and Leigh decided that it was time to combine their skill sets to offer a unique service within the commercial display industry and so, Dec the Malls was created. Dec the Malls has enabled them to realise their dream of delivering large scale, innovative displays to the shopping centre and commercial sectors.

The company’s mission is to bring magic to its clients’ assets through bespoke design, engaging interactive experiences and an unrivalled commitment to quality workmanship. The team strives to create uniquely eye-catching displays and are always developing new, innovative concepts to entertain and delight their clients’ customers.

In September 2021, Dec the Malls won the Excellence in Creative Industries Award at the Fremantle Business Awards, and was a member of the Winners Circle for the second year running. This was a fantastic acknowledgement that the company is successfully delivering it’s mission.

Dave Gardner


Dave is an expert in the design and installation of commercial displays and has provided displays for all major retail centres in Western Australia. He brings a high level of creative flair and attention to detail to every project. His interest in new technologies and products ensures that there are always new activations and display concepts in development at Dec the Malls. This presents our clients with a unique opportunity to work in partnership with us to bring their ideas to fruition.

Leigh is a highly experienced project and customer relationship manager. As a former senior manager in the commercial building sector, Leigh brings a professional and proactive approach to all areas of Dec the Malls’ work, including time management, resourcing, quality control and safety. This, along with his drive to create inclusive and innovative experiences and displays, means our clients can have peace of mind, knowing that their displays are taken care of and allowing them to focus on other aspects of their job.

He is driven by the challenges and opportunities that each day brings and is constantly seeking ways to make a positive impact.

Business Development Manager

Nicci brings a wealth of business management and retail activation knowledge to Dec the Malls. Through previous experience as a retail business owner and in the promotion and activation of a major retail precinct in Perth, she has a valuable understanding of the importance of retail activations in driving increased traffic and engagement. Nicci is responsible for Dec the Malls’ marketing activities and financial management.

How we work with you

Through every step of the process, you will be engaged, consulted and updated by your Project Manager.

Your Project Manager will lead your project delivery team and be your primary point of contact. We consider customer service to be the most important element of our business and look forward to working with you to create an amazing display.

    DesignOur creative team work closely with you to develop a unique design that reflects your vision and your budget, while also considering your specific site requirements and the nature of your operations.

  • Design Presentation


    We meet with you to present the design concept and clarify any questions you may have regarding the design, package options and costs prior to a contract being signed.

    Creation of your display commences with many of the components being produced by our own team in Perth. In some cases we work with overseas manufacturers, enabling us to offer a comprehensive range of on-trend products.

  • Quality Assurance

    Quality Assurance

    We regularly visit our international partners to ensure a consistent standard of workmanship and design interpretation. All completed products are assessed against Australian Standards and any modifications are undertaken by experienced tradespeople. Where necessary, the final product is subject to independent certification.

    Site Inductions & Safety

    Site Inductions and Safety

    Prior to installation of your display, we ensure all members of our installation team are inducted for your site. We also ensure all safety documentation is complete and that the work site is safe.

  • Installation


    Our trade qualified installation team deliver and install your display, using their creative flair and technical precision to bring your investment to life. Installation is undertaken at a time that suits your operations, so there is no disturbance to your valuable commercial space.


  • 7


    RemovalAt the end of the display period, our team will return to remove your display. Once again, the team will attend your site at a suitable time to ensure there is no disruption to your operations.

  • Storage


    If applicable, your display elements will be professionally packaged for safe storage in our secure facilities until you need them again. Our storage packages include full insurance of your products.
