Main Street Light Motifs

Quairading is a beautiful regional town located in the Wheatbelt region, east of Perth. Known for its vibrant community spirit and connection to the Australian bush, the town’s council sought to upgrade its main street Christmas decorations, in a way that would reflect the essence of an Australian Christmas.

The Shire of Quairading wanted to replace the old motif lights that had previously adorned the street light poles along the main street.

Their brief called for decorations with a modern ‘rustic / bush’ theme to reflect the character of the town. Specifically, they requested the inclusion of native Australian flowers with some elements in traditional Christmas colours of red and green.

In addition, the decorations had to withstand the harsh conditions of an Australian summer. They needed to maintain their visual appeal both day and night whilst being able to endure long hours of sunlight and periods of high wind.

Dec the Malls met the council’s brief, providing a collection of Australian-themed light motifs designed with a blend of modern and rustic aesthetics. Each decoration was tailored to capture the beauty of native flora, whilst also being durable enough for the outdoors.

Key features included:

• Australian Flora Designs – we created four unique motif designs inspired by native Australian flowers, blending the traditional red and green of Christmas with earthy tones.
• Dual Day-Night Appeal – to ensure the decorations looked as impressive in daylight as they did at night, we used neon green and gold flex lighting, reflective panels, and gold fairy lights.
• Suitability for Outdoor Conditions – the motifs incorporated materials resistant to UV damage and included bespoke fixing points that matched the council’s existing streetlight mounting brackets.

Our collaboration with the Shire of Quairading demonstrates how a tailored approach to festive lighting can not only meet practical needs but also capture the unique spirit of a regional community. By combining durability with aesthetic appeal, we delivered a solution that perfectly aligned with the council’s vision, enhancing the charm of their main street during the Christmas season.
