Sanctuary Cove is a prestigious waterfront destination located on Queensland’s northern Gold Coast. Each year, Sanctuary Cove curates a Christmas program designed to transform the precinct into a vibrant festive destination, encouraging longer dwell times, increased visitation and memorable experiences for families, residents and visitors. As a luxury waterfront community with a strong focus on events and seasonal activations, high-quality Christmas decorations are central to creating atmosphere, driving engagement and reinforcing Sanctuary Cove’s premium brand during the peak summer holiday period.

The Brief

The brief was to develop a bespoke Christmas Display Package that would:

• Create a visually impactful, family-friendly and memorable Christmas experience
• Reflect Sanctuary Cove’s marina and waterfront identity
• Withstand strong coastal winds, high pedestrian traffic and continuous exposure to the elements
• Be safe, robust and suitable for outdoor public spaces
• Support a multi-year Christmas program, delivering longevity and return on investment
• Include practical, secure storage solutions to preserve the display between seasons

Operational efficiency, durability and ease of annual installation and removal were critical considerations, ensuring the decorations could become a reliable cornerstone of Sanctuary Cove’s annual Christmas celebrations.

The Solution

Dec the Malls curated and delivered a tailored, Christmas Display Package engineered specifically for Sanctuary Cove’s environment. The package included:

• An 8m tall Illuminated Galleon on the Village Green – a striking, marina-inspired centrepiece designed to anchor the Christmas experience and reference Sanctuary Cove’s nautical setting.
• A 7.5m tall  Christmas Tree – featuring cool white lighting with a 10% random flash and styled with metallic finishes and white, teal and silver baubles to complement the waterfront palette.
• A 4m tall Origami Kangaroo outside Jabiru House – an Australian-themed illuminated sculpture providing a distinctive, family-friendly photo opportunity.
• A 12m long Flying Sleigh and Reindeer Installation along the Boardwalk – positioned near The Promenade to create a magical harbour-side Christmas moment and encourage evening visitation.
• Cross-Street Icicle Lighting along Masthead Way – enhancing the retail precinct and extending the festive atmosphere throughout the dining and shopping areas.
• Secure Onsite Storage Solutions – two dedicated containers fitted with custom storage boxes and protective covers to ensure the decorations remain in excellent condition between Christmas seasons.

As part of the activation program, a special Santa appearance at the sleigh and reindeer installation was introduced, creating a highly popular moment for families, generating organic social media content and strengthening emotional connections with the precinct.

The Outcome

The bespoke Christmas Display Package successfully transformed Sanctuary Cove into a festive waterfront destination, reinforcing its position as a premium location for Christmas celebrations on the Gold Coast.

The display increased seasonal visitation, encouraged family-friendly experiences and provided visually compelling backdrops that supported Sanctuary Cove’s events calendar and marketing activity.
