Subiaco Twilight Trail

City of Subiaco (Three Year Supply and Installation Package)

The City of Subiaco partnered with Dec the Malls to create a distinctive, multi-year Christmas experience that would transform the precinct into a vibrant festive destination. The project focused on delivering an engaging, visually appealing trail that would attract visitors, support local businesses, and encourage community participation.

Features

The City of Subiaco is a metropolitan local government area known for its mix of retail, dining, and community spaces. The City was seeking to enhance its seasonal offering to increase visitation throughout the heart of Subiaco, creating a memorable festive identity that stands apart from neighbouring councils.

The Brief

We were engaged to design and deliver a cohesive, multi-year Christmas activation across the town centre, with a curated trail of festive displays along Rokeby Road and adjacent laneways. The project required visually impactful installations that would perform equally well in daylight and at night, while incorporating interactive elements such as selfie stations to encourage community engagement and social sharing. A key component of the brief was to ensure the experience remained fresh, with some of the displays changing from year to year. In addition, the City required a fully managed solution, including installation, maintenance, removal, and storage.

 Our Solution

Dec the Malls developed a bespoke festive concept, delivering a curated “Twilight Trail” that combined visual appeal, interactivity, and practicality. Key components included:

  • Location-specific design: Installations were carefully selected to suit individual sites, ensuring a cohesive yet varied journey through Subiaco
  • Day-to-night impact: Decorations were designed to maintain strong visual appeal in both daylight and illuminated evening settings
  • Evolving program: A flexible inventory of displays enabled a planned 25% annual refresh, keeping the experience fresh for returning visitors
  • Interactive experiences: Selfie displays and interactive installations encouraged community engagement and shareable moments
  • End-to-end management: Full-service delivery covered supply, installation, maintenance, removal, and secure storage
  • Durable design: Materials and construction methods were chosen to withstand harsh outdoor conditions, and to minimise maintenance and potential vandalism costs

 Outcome

The Subiaco Twilight Trail has become a highlight of the City’s festive season, driving increased foot traffic and supporting local businesses. The interactive displays successfully engaged the community, creating memorable experiences and encouraging social sharing. The evolving installations, refreshed annually, have incentivised repeat visits and made the trail a returning favourite for locals and visitors alike.
